What are the competencies that a coach must demonstrate?

Focus on N°2 of the International Coaching Federation's Core competencies : "Embody a Coaching Mindset"

In a world where the diffusion of professional coaching continues to grow, the International Coaching Federation (ICF) has been defining the core competencies used by professional coaches for more than 25 years. Those core skills include 8 distinct competencies, the second of which consists of "embodying a Coaching Mindset, i.e., developing and maintaining a mindset that is open, curious, flexible and client-centered."

In practical terms, this means that the coach :

- Adopts a coach attitude - caring, open and non-judgmental

- Reflects positive attention back to the client in order to value and encourage him/her

- Uses self-awareness and intuition to serve the client.

In our coaching practice, we deploy this skill :

- using our intuition to serve our clients,

- by remaining aware of our own biases and internal map of reality,

- developing and maintaining our mental and emotional capacities before, during and after our coaching sessions

- developing an ongoing reflective practice to improve our coaching

- sharing our ideas, insights, metaphors with our clients, while exercising non-judgment.
